Hampden Underwriting Research (HUR) is the research division of HAL. It employs a team of seven highly-experienced insurance analysts, all of whom have worked in this role for over ten years. Its work can be divided into four distinct tasks.

  • HUR analyses all of the Lloyd’s syndicates that are open to third party capital, with a view to determining which Lloyd’s syndicates HAL Members should support for each year of account.

  • HUR reports to HAL Members on the performance of the Market and all Lloyd’s syndicates.

  • HUR also investigates new syndicate opportunities and have organised bilateral capacity trades for the exclusive benefit of HAL Members.

  • HUR also manages all of the HAL MAPA funds, designing their portfolios and trading their capacity in the September Capacity Auctions each year, as and where they deem appropriate
